FAQ

Q. Are your chickens reared in cages? or do they roam freely?

A. Turks Poultry have two arms to its poultry business:
1. Is the production of Broiler (eating) chickens.
2. Is the production of Eggs
These are two different breeds and types of chicken.
Firstly Broiler chickens, these are sent to us at 1 day old where they are put into large open barns on saw dust and raised until slaughter. Those that go to our free range farms have hatches opened up after 10 days when the birds are big enough to allow them to roam outside.
Secondly egg production, again the chicks come to us at 1 day old they are raised in heated sheds for 17 weeks in cages and are then sent to the laying sheds which in our case are modern battery hen cages.

Q. Is your chicken feed growed in New Zealand?
A. We have contract farmers that grow the corn for us. We source the seed here in NZ once harvested we dry. store and cut the maize to make our own chicken feed. The only product that we can't source in NZ is the small amount of soya which is imported.
